Missioner
The Reverend Virginia Yochem
Gina was born in San Antonio but lived outside Marathon, Texas until the age of two when the drought of the 50’s caused the family to move back to San Antonio. Gina graduated from Saint Mary’s Hall in 1969, and the University of Texas in 1974 with a B.A. in History. She attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, earning a Master of Arts degree in pastoral counseling in 2002 and a counseling license in 2006. She entered the Junior class at Iona School for Ministry in 2007. After working as volunteer coordinator at the San Antonio Zoo and museum educator at the Institute of Texan Cultures, Gina began a 10 year career in hospice as director of volunteers, bereavement counselor and finally as chaplain. She moved to Goliad in 2004 as a chaplain for Hospice of South Texas. Two grandparents had been born in Goliad so the move seemed like coming home. Gina is currently in practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Gina was baptized and confirmed at Christ Church, San Antonio. She became a member of the Church of Reconciliation in San Antonio and made her Cursillo in 1995. Ministries included usher, altar guild, lay reader, Eucharistic Minister and Eucharistic Visitor and leader of Community of Hope. Gina’s faith is founded in family, time spent in the mountains near Big Bend, hymns sung daily in chapel at Saint Mary’s Hall, Cursillo and Centering Prayer. Gina’s two grown children, Virginia and Richard, live in San Antonio. Virginia was ordained to the Diaconate by Bishop Reed on June 10, 2010 and to the Priesthood by Bishop Lillibridge on December 12, 2010.
